Program Overview

Making the transition from independent contributor to Manager of people is one of the most significant transitions in your career. Up to now you have trusted primarily your technical and interpersonal skills to be successful. Since you are entering your first management position, you must already have some natural leadership skills. All this will continue to serve you well.

This program will introduce you the technical Human Resource skills you need to be a People Manager in today’s employment environment as well as prepare you to develop your leadership style and the positive influence you can have on your team to keep them engaged and productive.

 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this interactive workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Envision what Leadership is and the type of leader they want to be
  • Understand your responsibilities as a manager related to HR functions (from recruitment to termination), legislative considerations, respect and privacy in the workplace.
  • Communicating as a Leader – coaching, employee development and feedback
  • Management Best Practices – recognition, performance management; conflict resolution

Your Instructor

Caroline O’Shea, Human Resources Leader and Certified Coach Practitioner

With over 25 years experience in Human Resources leadership, Caroline has a passion for seeing potential in individuals and developing high performing teams. She does this by partnering with Leaders through recruitment, development, training and coaching. Employee development is a win / win / win combination. Leaders win by having a strong team; employees win with continuous learning and career opportunities and the business/institution wins by achieving results.

A Human Resources Leader and Certified Coach Practitioner, Caroline believes that a great Leader first understands themselves to better understand their employees. She is certified in Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Birkman Method and Predictive Index. Having built a Human Resources department from the ground up, she is well versed in all areas of HR while her specialties include Leadership development, coaching and training; talent development and succession planning; alternate dispute resolution, mediation, employee / labour relations. Bilingual (English & French)
